Depending on the individual circumstances, an MRI scan might be of greater benefit to you and that is why we advise prior assessment by a trained professional so that they can advise the most appropriate examination for you.

     Ultrasound of the knee is fantastic for:

    ·         Lumps and swellings around joint (including bursa / bursitis)

    ·         Extensor mechanism (quadriceps and patellar tendon integrity / tendinopathy)

    ·         Popliteal cysts / swelling.

    ·         Collateral ligaments – however instability is largely a clinical diagnosis and injury to these is invariably

    associated with additional internal joint injury, which is best evaluated with MRI.

    Knee ultrasound is generally not suitable for:

     ·         Osteoarthritis – standard test is weight bearing x-ray to assess joint space.

    ·         Cruciate ligaments.

    ·         Confirmation and grading of suspected meniscal tears.

    ·         Patellofemoral pain / instability.

The primary aim of these scans is to diagnose injuries, detect abnormalities, and guide treatment plans (where appropriate) effectively;

At Ultrasound Scan Clinic, we prioritize transparency with our service users. While ultrasound is a reliable diagnostic tool, it’s not suitable for all injuries or concerns. That’s why we recommend having a trained professional such as a Physiotherapist, GP, Chiropractor or Sports injury therapist etc clinically assessing your condition and advising if an ultrasound scan will be beneficial to your situation. That is also why we ask you to complete the short booking form before we create an appointment for you. This helps us assess your query individually and determine if our services are appropriate for you.

If suitable, we’ll contact you to arrange an appointment within 2 working days; if considered not appropriate, we’ll let you know in the same time frame so as to avoid any unnecessary time delay or expense to you.
